Along with Russian developments like the T-5000 extreme-range sniper rifle, snipers are creating new tactical problems, which will only get worse if the gun finds its way to the international market.Īlthough a lot of Russian military ideas are often overly ambitious or nonsensical, Russia is a leader when it comes to silenced weapon technology. ![]() In urban situations, the firing position is likely to be impossible to locate, and it’ll likely be lethal with just one shot. The silenced MTs-116M may set a new benchmark in quiet sniper weapons, but it will likely be used in very small numbers by specialized units. Despite the pricey ammo, this technology provides the foundation for Russia’s new silent sniper. Although the PSS was replaced by the more advanced PSS-2 in 2011, one disadvantage remained: it needed special, ultra-expensive ammunition. ![]() I don’t use the audio version much but the few times I’ve traveled, it is so comforting to not have to skip the Office in order to keep my hands on the steering wheel and my eyes in the road. It is so calming of any worries to pull out my phone, open the app, and be able to connect with Our Lord at those times I need Him most. Many times I’ve been sitting in a doctor’s waiting room at the time of Mid Morning prayer. It is such a blessing to have the Divine Office in my pocket. Now I don’t need to turn a lamp on as I use to when I used the Office printed volumes. ![]() Praying in the dark helps me feel the presence of the Lord and keeps distractions to a minimum. When I rise in the early morning, it’s still dark. Having the Divine Office on my phone is absolutely the best thing ever! The sense of community is so wonderful as I see how many others are praying at the same time as myself. When I discovered this app, all of my concerns of ribbon placement were gone. While, I admit, I haven’t always been consistent in praying it daily, and I was never sure I had the ribbons placed correctly, it has helped me grow so much closer to Our Lord. I have prayed the Divine Office for many years. In this way, prayers become liturgy, a way to fulfill our divine calling and a practical approach for addressing the suffering of the world. He means for us to adopt an ongoing attitude of prayer that is a way of life and a constant intercession for the salvation of all mankind.Īs the mystical body of Christ prays in unison, it fulfills what Paul advises as Christian conduct, that believers at once pray for the good of themselves, their neighbors, and the world. Paul advises us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing,” he intends more than simply bowing our heads and speaking to God on a regular basis. It automatically downloads the appropriate prayers for each office, every day of the year, including Solemnities, Feasts, and Memorials. The Divine Office App is designed to make praying more convenient, enjoyable, and simple enough for anyone to use. It contains the official text and audio of daily prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours of the Roman Catholic Church (Breviary) and has been approved for use in the United States by USCCB. This version is the official prayer book of the Catholic Church, however, it is suitable for all Christian faith traditions. If you are unable to pray in community, but love the contentment of praying with others, a praised feature of the Divine Office App lets you view locations where other Christians around the world are simultaneously praying with you. ![]() Morning prayer includes the “Benedictus” (the prayer recited by John the Baptist’s father, Zechariah) evening prayer includes the “Magnificat” (which Mary recited when she visited her cousin Elizabeth) and night prayer includes the “Nunc Dimittis” (Simeon’s prayer at the presentation of Jesus at the Temple). The Divine Office App is an opportunity for you to participate in the recitation of the Liturgy of the Hours, an ancient and meditative collection of psalms, hymns and scripture that represent the public prayer of the Christian community. Three prayers in the Liturgy of the Hours are taken from the infancy narratives in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Celebrating morning prayer and evening prayer has become a common parish practice. While usually considered the obligatory prayer of clergy and those in monastic orders, the revised Liturgy of the Hours is meant to be prayed by all people. These prayer times are about three hours apart: Lauds (3am), Prime (6am), Terce (9am), Sext (noon), None (3pm), Vespers (evening), Compline (before going to bed), and Matins (Midnight).Īfter Vatican II, the Divine Office was updated and simplified, and became know as the Liturgy of the Hours. Traditionally, there are seven hours of prayer in the day and a night prayer. By the seventh century, this daily prayer became know as the Divine Office. The custom of reciting prayers at certain hours goes back to a Jewish practice that was continued and developed by Christians in the Church’s early centuries. The Church has a full year’s cycle of daily prayer – the Liturgy of the Hours. ![]() ![]() Here is an example, for illustration purposes, of the specific way you must complete the back of the Title form to effectuate a sale from the estate. The restaurant could take advantage of the historical aspects of Silver Dollar City to craft both an atmosphere and a menu that fits inside the park. But I’d also like to see one inside the park itself. Putting such a place in a hotel would also allow a guest to enjoy a beer or glass of wine with dinner outside the dry theme park. If Silver Dollar City gets the resort hotel previously discussed, it will certainly come with restaurants of its own, and one that’s a bit higher-end would seem likely. A couple of options for guests to make a reservation so they know when they are going to stop moving and enjoy a meal would be welcome. Too often at theme parks food is gobbled down on a quick stop between rides, but sometimes you want to take your time and actually enjoy your food. However, for me, the dining experience is only about half made up by the food, and so what Silver Dollar City really needs is a higher-end table service restaurant that can make the dining experience as good as what's on the plate. An etching from the Carceri series hung in his office and the scenes in heaven in The Discovery of Heaven (and in its film adaptation) are clearly inspired by it. Harry Mulisch (one of the great Dutch novelists) was also a fan. Huxley’s Brave New World (1932) and George Orwell’s 1984 (1948) are dystopian novels in which the menacing world of Piranesi is recognisable. A tyranny of order and efficiency that reduces humanity to a predictable cog in a process. He compares Piranesi’s prisons to the panopticism that was so popular in architecture at the time. Aldous Huxley wrote an essay accompanying an edition of Piranesi’s prints in 1949. That started early on with writers and poets such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Thomas de Quincey, Lord Byron, John Keats, Honoré de Balzac, Victor Hugo and Edgar Allan Poe. Like Escher, Piranesi was an artist who infuses his prints with both order and chaos, thus garnering mass appeal. For many artists it is an abiding source of inspiration, particularly in terms of its utopian and dystopian character. Piranesi’s oeuvre not only influenced M.C. Conversely, Escher’s prints lack the dark, menacing element that characterises Piranesi’s series. But in terms of abandoning gravity and creating truly impossible buildings and spaces, he never goes to the extreme to which Escher would eventually go. Piranesi exaggerates the perspective and renders his spaces hugely impressive with dramatic lighting and a beautiful light/dark contrast. Here he creates a threatening, hidden world full of ominous caverns and hanging pulleys and cables, in which man is occasionally present yet markedly insignificant and vulnerable.
